Why IPv6?

The Internet has grown beyond a point anyone could have ever imagined a decade ago. The digital age offers endless new opportunity in an ever more networked world. There is a limited amount of IPv4 addresses and by 2011 most of the global IP addresses within IPv4 have been allocated. However, booming economies such as China and India demand for more and more IP addresses. The mobile client wave (Smart-phones, Tablets etc.) demand more and more IP addresses in order to be able to communicate across seamless, borderless networks.

What exactly is IPv6?

The IP addresses are 128 bit in length and written in hexadecimal. IPv4 addresses (such as 141.1.1.1) are only 32 bit in length. In a nutshell, every device seeking internet or networked access requires a unique IP address to be able to communicate with other components. There are only around 4 billion IPv4 addresses whereas there are as many IPv6 addresses as sand corns on the beaches of California (source Stanford University).

Why Should I learn IPv6?

Over the years to come we will see a major upgrades from IPv4 to IPv6 worldwide. Some Service Providers have already begun doing so. IP Version 6 will be the new Internet Protocol and gradually replace IPv4. Everyone who is working in the IT industry will need to have at least a basic understanding of IP Version 6. System Administrators, Server Administrators, DNS / DHCP Admins and of course Network Engineers need to know a lot more about this new protocol in order to design, support, maintain and troubleshoot ever complex system infrastructures.

1 Day Instructor-Led IPv6 Training Course

The 2 Senior Cisco CCIE Network Consultants (Martin Voelk & Maria O’Grady) have developed a 1 Day vendor independent online IPv6 Course. The course goal is to educate people on IP Version 6, highlight the difference to IPv4 and enable delegates to configure IPv6 functionality on Routers, Firewalls, Servers, Hosts and other networking devices.

Our IPv6 Training is being delivered online over GoToMeeting where the instructor shares his screen with all attendees whilst everyone is dialed into an audio conference. You will receive your dial-in information approximately 1 business day prior to class start. Every module will finish with a Q &A session where delegates can ask individual questions around IPv6.
